One week as a concerned neighbour

You do not need a caseload. You need a specific ask, a named official, and a follow-up date. FAO already published the numbers — use them.

  1. Day 1 — Read two pages. This home page and the FAO data lab. Note 73,414 known in 2024–25 and 88,859 projected for 2028–29.
  2. Day 2 — Pick the official. Premier and Housing Minister for provincial base funding. Your mayor and council for shelter capacity and zoning. Your MP for Reaching Home and the National Housing Strategy Act.
  3. Day 3 — Write. Use the letter builder. Keep your own story short. Lead with the fiscal cliff after time-limited funds and the unit targets.
  4. Day 4 — Local aid that is not a letter. Give to a harm-reduction or Housing First agency you can name. Volunteer hours beat vague “thoughts.”
  5. Day 5 — Ask council a question. Delegations and public meetings are on city sites. One question: how many Housing First units did we open last year versus the FAO growth in this service-manager area?
  6. Day 7 — Follow up. If you emailed, send the same letter by post. Postage to Ottawa MPs is free in Canada.
