Project Roadmap

Strategic Development Plan | EmergencyHousing.ca

1. Database Repopulation

Rebuilding and verifying a province-wide public directory of essential support services. This includes emergency shelters, food security programs, legal aid, counseling, harm reduction, transitional housing, and crisis resources, with real-time updates and verified contact information. The goal is to ensure users can quickly find appropriate services in any Ontario municipality.

2. Member Portal Security

The Member Portal will remain under restricted access while undergoing comprehensive penetration testing and code hardening. No user registration will be allowed until end-to-end encryption, brute-force protection, and data minimization practices have been fully implemented.

3. Hidden Functionality (Easter Eggs)

Select interactive and hidden features will be embedded across the platform as Easter Eggs. These subtle, user-discoverable elements are designed to reward curiosity, enhance user engagement, and reflect the platform’s ethos of creativity and empowerment through exploration.

4. Mandatory Two-Factor Authentication

Following the Member Portal security audit, all users—including volunteers, agents, and administrators—will be required to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). This is a non-negotiable security standard to protect sensitive case management data and ensure platform integrity.

5. Discretionary Fund Allocation

A portion of the organization’s petty cash reserves will be reallocated into a discretionary emergency fund. Approved field Agents will be authorized to access this fund for time-sensitive interventions, such as transportation, short-term housing, meal stipends, or replacing destroyed identification.

6. SEO Optimization

A full-scale search engine optimization (SEO) initiative will be executed to maximize discoverability. This includes schema markup, keyword alignment, mobile-first optimization, fast load times, and metadata strategy—ensuring EmergencyHousing.ca ranks prominently across search engines for all relevant queries.

7. Third-Party Advertisement Integration

Carefully vetted third-party advertisements will be introduced in non-intrusive locations across the platform. All ad revenue will be transparently earmarked for the Agent Emergency Fund, supporting immediate relief efforts for vulnerable clients in high-risk or transitional situations.

8. Free Birthday Gifts & Perks Page

In response to community interest, a new page will be launched showcasing free birthday gifts, experiences, meals, and giveaways available across Ontario. This curated directory will help users celebrate their birthdays with dignity and joy—especially those navigating homelessness, poverty, or displacement. It will be filterable by region and automatically updated with new offerings.

9. Enhanced Start Here Tool & Automated Assistance

The “Start Here” tool will be upgraded to provide smarter triage based on user input, using dynamic logic to adapt results, screen for risk, and recommend appropriate resources or actions. Tools like the abuse screening module and housing intake wizard will be fine-tuned to improve speed, language clarity, and the relevance of suggested programs—empowering users to access help faster and more effectively.
