๐ก๏ธ What Happens When You Report a Found Service Animal or Identification
At EmergencyHousing.CA, the safety and wellbeing of our high-risk clients and their Service Animals is our top priority. When a tag, ID, or animal registered through our Service Animal Program is reported found, we initiate the following protective sequence:
- 1. Identification & Matching: We verify the reported tag or ID and attempt to match it to a current or past client.
- 2. Emergency Outreach: We attempt to contact the client directly or through emergency contacts on file.
- 3. Agent Representation: If the client has signed a representation agreement, we act on their behalf to recover the animal or identification.
- 4. Interagency Coordination: We collaborate with hospitals, law enforcement, animal welfare authorities, and case managers as needed.
- 5. Police Notification: If we cannot reach the client and no instructions say otherwise, we file a police report as a protective measure.
We consider the separation of a Service Animal from its handler a presumed emergency until proven otherwise. This protective stance is essential for safeguarding clients with serious medical, psychological, or safety-related conditions.
Whether youโve found a tag, an identification card, or a Service Animal itself โ and whether the client is active or inactive โ EmergencyHousing.CA will respond immediately, respectfully, and in accordance with the law and duty of care.
