Special tenancies

Some housing uses different chapters of the same Act.

Care homes, many social-housing units, land-lease communities, and some student residences follow extra or different rules. Human rights still apply.

If you live in a care home, retirement home, or supportive unit, ask whether the RTA care-home rules, the Retirement Homes Act, or a program agreement applies. Do not assume you have “no rights” because the building is called supportive. Illegal lockouts, discrimination, and neglect of maintenance are still actionable.

Co-op housing and many university residences sit partly outside the standard private-rental scheme. A clinic can map which statute actually governs your door.
