Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario

The HRTO decides Code applications, including housing.

You generally have one year from the last incident of discrimination to apply. The Human Rights Legal Support Centre can help you apply, and in some cases represent you.

  1. Write a timeline and keep documents (ads, texts, “no ODSP” emails).
  2. Call HRLSC: 1-866-625-5179.
  3. File the HRTO application (see current Form 1 / online process at tribunalsontario.ca/hrto).
  4. The respondent files a response. Mediation is often offered. A hearing can follow.
  5. Remedies can include money, an order to rent to you, policy change, training — whatever makes you whole, as far as the Tribunal can go.

Housing cases often run alongside an LTB file. Get advice about how the two interact. The HRTO is not a substitute for an urgent lockout T2.
